The Olympian Safety Program, was founded in 1989 to promote safety, awareness and physical fitness. The program has been taught to over 250,000 kids in over 300 Public and Catholic Schools in the Greater Toronto Area. We offer a safety program for kids and a safety workshop for adults.
The Kids Safety Program focuses on issues that our children face each day, such as: safety at school, at home, on the internet, and in the community, bullying, conflict, drugs, sexual assault and violence. The program's goal is to help kids recognize that while these issues exist, they can learn skills to deal with them.
The Adult Safety Workshop focuses on safety for adults of all ages. It is a workshop that is valuable to parents, educators, grandparents, or anyone wanting to learn how to improve their personal safety.
Our Mission
To promote safety, awareness and healthy living in our community in order to foster an environment that is safe to live, learn and play.
History
The Olympian Safety Program was founded in 1989 under the name Youth Awareness and Safety. In 2007 the company changed its name in order to broaden and transform its services, and adapt to changing times. The Olympian Safety Program has included a cyber bullying and internet safety lesson in the Kids Safety Program and has included a safety workshop for adults.
Our program started at 3 schools in the City of York, those schools were Arlington P.S., Kane P.S. and Rockcliffe M.S. Realizing that the elementary schools were excluded from this valuable program, we approached Richard Ward, the consultant for the City of York, who gave us the opportunity to teach in the elementary and senior schools in York. The program was so well received that we taught in York for about 5 years.
We then approached the North York School Board and met with Bill Barkley, who was in charge of safe schools at the time, and presented the program to him. After seeing the positive impact the program would have on the kids, he gave us the opportunity to teach in ten schools in North York.
Since then we have taught several public and catholic schools in York Region, Toronto, Durham and Simcoe regions.
